Freys – History
Freys is one of Stockholm’s oldest brands, with a rich history speckled with exciting events and fascinating stories. The Freys name comes from the wise, powerful horse Frey, who won the highly acclaimed, 320-kilometre endurance race between Stockholm and Jönköping in 1895.
At the end of the 19th century, Freys was a horse-and-carriage company for wealthy Stockholmers. In modern times, the company has flourished and now owns two family-run hotels in central Stockholm. We also have real estate, restaurants and limousine services.
Freys Hotel Lilla Rådmannen
Hotel Lilla Rådmannen opened in 1997 as an extension of Freys Hotel at Bryggargatan 12 in Stockholm. With homely rooms and a cosy rooftop terrace near the bustling shopping street of Drottninggatan, Freys Hotel Lilla Rådmannen quickly became a very popular hotel.
February 2009 saw the opening of yet another hotel, Hotel Bakfickan, a two-star alternative to the others. The Bakfickan was closed in December 2013 for a complete renovation. It opened under a new guise in spring/summer 2014 – as a three-star hotel as part of Hotel Lilla Rådmannen. Today we offer 62 individually furnished hotel rooms and nine conference rooms, in an attractive location in central Stockholm.
The Book about Freys
If you would like to read more about the history of Freys, we have a book entitled Boken om Freys/The Book about Freys both in the lobby and in our hotel rooms. Also, our personnel are always happy and proud to tell you about our history. So please feel free to ask us!
